We entered our visit to Lake Como with high hopes that was going to be our next home, it was checked all the boxes; centrally located, access to water and mountain activities, charming towns with lovely restaurants, close to Milan, seasons, and stunning natural surroundings. We arrived full of hope and expectations. And the beauty did not disappoint us.

Tremezzo

Picture perfect town.

Change of Plans

Part way through our week of assessing how everyday life felt in Lake Como, we started feeling small challenges. For example, we got terribly lost trying to locate the house for the viewing with the real estate agent. The roads became busy and rushed with impatient drivers. And we could even feel the hum of tourism, many of which were running about dressed up and posing for selfies. And I get it, I took my fair share of photos, it is spectacular. But there is something about all that fictious activity that detracted from the natural allure.

We were not able to find any houses that matched up with what we were looking for, so it was back to the drawing board with homes searches. Hours later after scouring the real-estate web sites we had a solid list of candidates up north.

And off we went, spending the last week up in the northern Alps of Italy.

Trentino and the Dolomites

Turns out …. this area feels PERFECT for us! There are apple and pear orchards covering the hills, crisp mountain air, delicious food, ski resorts, paragliding, friendly people and stop-you-in-your-tracks mountains. Central to Europe we can take the train through Italy, Switzerland, and Austria.

Now we’re off to find the right house….
